Russia’s oldest film studio Lenfilm will aid development of ethnic cinema produced in Yugra. The Governor Natalia Komarova and the studio’s General Director Fyodor Scherbakov signed a supplementary agreement and approved a plan of actions for development of film and television content production. The signing ceremony took place at the Spirit of Fire Film Festival.

“We are starting to work together with the district on popularizing ethnic cinema. There will be screenings at “Lenfilm” in St. Petersburg. We will organize discussions and invite film scholars and experts. That’s fascinating. There is a lot of work ahead,” said the Russian film studio general director. “We also continue working actively together with the region and looking for scripts and new project ideas. In particular, today in Khanty-Mansiysk we present our new workshop “Lenfilm Debut”, and we will invite colleagues from Yugra to join in”.

The plan includes film screenings and photo exhibitions dedicated to the culture of indigenous peoples of the North that will take place at the Culture and Exhibition Centre of Lenfilm Studio, intensive educational projects, participation in the Yugra district projects and forums, regional location and production sites tours, and the Spirit of Fire International Film Festival. Also, there are plans to organise a joint exhibition project at the Museum of Nature and Man dedicated to the work Vitaly Melnikov, a film director and a People’s Artist of the RSFSR.

Under discussion were joint projects of the Lenfilm and the Yugra regional television and radio company, along with methodology support for the development of the district’s own film and television industry. “We hope to start working with the TV company “Yugra” in the sphere of film screenings and joint projects. As the saying goes, no sooner said than done, and we hope that already this year we will hold many events together”, said Fyodor Shcherbakov.
