At the last “Spirit of Fire” Maxim Stoyanov sat on the jury of the Russian competition and presented the film “The Tales of Hoffmann”. We selected quotes from Maxim’s interview to recall important milestones in the creative path of the star of “Cipher”, “Give mi Liberty”, “Gerda” and “Frozen Earth”.
My mother loved cinema very much and she infected me with this love. I watched films avidly whenever I had free time. Even in the foreman’s room he kept a DVD player and watched his favorite films during his lunch break. I watched “Liquidation” for the hundredth time and wondered: how did my favorite at that time, Vladimir Mashkov, become an outstanding actor? I typed the names of my idols - Makovetsky, Mashkov, Mironov, Garmash - into an Internet search engine and realized: they all graduated from the theater institute. And then it clicked in my head: I want that too! The light began to blink, an obsession appeared - I needed to go to the theater at all costs. The next thing I typed into the search engine was: how to get there? And I received the answer: learn a fable, prose, poem and go show with this program.

Cinema is always a struggle; you always have to overcome some difficulties, from bureaucracy to weather conditions. Some things can be defended, some cannot, but nevertheless, the result of this struggle gives rise to a certain energy that goes into editing and ends up on the screen.

Nobody directed me along this path, I followed it myself for one simple reason - I really loved and love watching movies. At one time, when I was boxing and studying construction, I watched a lot of films. And then I ended up in Moscow - I came here to earn money, worked at a construction site, poured concrete, at first I was a reinforcement worker, then a foreman, a foreman. And so, when I became an engineering and technical worker, I had more free time, I watched a lot of films on my laptop in the foreman’s room and at some point I asked the question: “How are these people born? How do they get into the movies? I started googling the biographies of my favorite artists; everyone’s fates were different, but one common denominator was studying at a theater institute. Next, I googled “How to get into theater school?” and everything is written there in detail - poem, fable, prose. I approached the matter very seriously, got confused specifically, and realized that I would only have one chance. There was enormous stress, a lot of doubts, I was very worried, but I understood that this had to be done, otherwise I would not forgive myself. I wanted to fight for real, not for life, but for death. And, it seems to me, this energy was felt by Konstantin Raikin and all members of the commission, and they took me on. Thank you very much to Konstantin Arkadyevich, Elena Ivanovna Butenko - these are my masters, outstanding people. I believe that I had one of the best theater schools in the world, thanks to Konstantin Arkadyevich, he is incredible, he calls for discipline, professionalism, ethics, constant work, and working on oneself. I think that four years at the Moscow Art Theater School were the best period of my life.

This is the first commandment of any artist - always look for something positive in a negative character, and vice versa.

Since I am a sentimental person, I would like to get into the Disney cartoon “Beauty and the Beast”. A very elegant story, which at first talks about the vanity of a guy who was punished for this and became a monster. Then a beauty came, he tried to achieve, then got angry... It would be great to feel like a Beast, who is first infinitely angry, and then infinitely gentle. It seems to me that such two qualities in a man should be combined and only one beauty can control these two elements.

I think that everything helps in the acting profession; any accumulated experience can be useful in one role or another, in one project or another. And even if, for example, you don’t have any experience, and you need to play, for example, a biologist, then you will have to gain this experience, work somewhere, look somewhere, study, say, some organisms.

I would like to be wrong, but it seems to me that my generation, born in the eighties, no matter how pretentious it may sound, is lost. We often did not understand at all in what coordinate system we existed. At school, where we studied using Soviet textbooks, they explained one thing to us, in the family we saw another, on the street - a third, in the country - even a fourth. There was such a vinaigrette in our heads!

“Growth points depend not only on the significance of the film and the name of the director, but also on the scope of the role. I think the main point for me was Dima from the film “Give mi Liberty” by Kirill Mikhanovsky. It was a powerful experience - creative and human. I really liked my character and I thought about a lot after this role. It seems to show the wrong side of life - disabled people, poor emigrants, marginal aspects of the life of blacks, but an incredible metamorphosis occurs in the film, just like in Dostoevsky’s novels: the hero dies of consumption, but his soul is light. The author leads us to God through the darkness.

My master Konstantin Arkadyevich Raikin adhered to this principle - no matter what happens, profession comes first, only death can justify the fact that you did not show up.
