Spirit of Fire Academy Events to Address Development of Russian Regional Cinema at EEF 2023

The Spirit of Fire Academy will present its latest regional cinematography projects and hold a pitch session for the best films during the 8th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF). The presentation will take place on 12 September at the ‘Soul of Russia. The North’ pavilion during the ‘Far East Street’ exhibition. The EEF is being organized by the Roscongress Foundation.

 

The pitch session aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of decentralizing film production, discuss the appeal of Russia’s regions for filming, and increase the audience’s awareness of local cinema.

 

The session ‘The Creative Potential of Siberia and Russia’s Far East: Filmmaking Opportunities’ will focus on film startups that have been initiated by entrepreneurs from Siberia and the Far East and production solutions to help regional film companies make new films. The session will be moderated by Regional Cinema Support Fund Deputy Executive Director Dmitry Yakunin and attended by KD Studios General Producer and Co-Founder Yevgeny Melentyev, Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Development Corporation General Director Afanasy Savin, Vladivostok Film Studio General Director Dmitry Shevtsov, Creative Producer for Startup Pitching of the Regional Cinema Support Fund and Prospekt Studio Director Pavel Peregudov, Yolka Corporation General Director Yekaterina Ivanteyeva, Homeproduction General Producer Yulia Lipatova, Producer, President of the Zero Plus International Film Festival, and Founder of the Zero Plus Online Cinema Nikolay Dunn, and Irina Belykh, who is the programme director of the FANK Festival of Contemporary Scientific Films, a producer at the FANK Scientific Film Laboratory Producer, and the supervisor of the ‘Science as Art’ initiative as part of the Decade of Science and Technology. The session participants will present business initiatives in cinema, film projects that are to be shot in the regions of Siberia and the Far East, and scientific film laboratories, and discuss the conditions for film production in Yugra, Primorye, and Yakutia, as well as the production of children’s films as a cornerstone for the long-term development of the film and media industry.

 

“Collaboration with world-class professionals in creating the conditions needed to develop the film industry in Yugra has helped us form an effective film production crew in the region and create a pleasant atmosphere for everyone who is interested in working in the film industry. We need to develop partnerships and work on new projects in order to translate each region’s film production potential into a real product,” Yugra Governor Natalya Komarova said.

 

The session ‘The Phenomenon of Russian Film: National Cinema as an Engine of the Regional Economy’, which will be held as part of the Creative Business Forum, will focus on the unique aspects of regional film production, prospects for creating a film cluster in the Far East, financial support for film producers, training of personnel, the demand for Russian content in Asian countries, and other issues concerning the development of regional cinema. 

 

Invitations to the session have been sent to Deputy Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East and the Arctic Elvira Nurgaliyeva, Director of the Cinematography and Digital Development Department of the Russian Ministry of Culture Dmitry Davidenko, Head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Aysen Nikolayev, Producer and Deputy General Director of KIT Film Studio Sergey Bagirov, Regional Cinema Support Fund Deputy Executive Director Dmitry Yakunin, Director and Producer Philipp Abryutin, KD Studios General Producer and Co-Founder Yevgeny Melentyev, and Homeproduction General Producer Yulia Lipatova.

 

The Creative Business Forum will take place on 10 September as part of the EEF 2023. The event is being organized by the Innosocium Foundation, the social platform of the Roscongress Foundation. The Spirit of Fire Academy, which was initiated by the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug-Yugra, is a strategic partner of the Creative Business Forum. The programme partner is VKontakte, the event’s main social media and streaming service. 

 

The 8th Eastern Economic Forum will take place on 10–13 September on the campus of Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok.
