Born in 1974. Graduated from the Tomsk State University (1998) and from VGIK (2004, class of Vadim Abdrashitov). His first feature film “Hard-Hearted” (2007) was recognized as the best debut at Russian film festival “Kinotavr”, where it also received the Grigory Gorin Prize for best script; the film also received the Rainer Werner Fassbinder Prize at the Mannheim IFF and the prize for best feature film at the IFF “Stalker” in Moscow. His second film “Tambourine, Drum” (2009) won Silver Leopard and Special Prize of the Jury at the Locarno IFF, prize for best direction at the Cottbus IFF, Golden Eagle Award in Russia for best female part and many other awards. His next film “The Convoy” (2012) won Grand Prix and best director award at the Sakhalin IFF. His last film “The Duelist” (2016) won 3 awards Nika and Golden Eagle, and other awards.
